Tuffa Broadland Plus-Size Riding Boots

Standard Fit vs Wide Fit vs Made to Measure Riding Boots

Long riding boots are not just sold by shoe size. The same foot size can be paired with different calf widths and heights, and choosing the right route makes a huge difference to comfort and appearance.

Standard fit

A standard fit is the simplest option when your foot size, calf and height all sit comfortably within the measurements for a stock boot. Always use the size guide for the individual style because “standard” is not identical across every design.

Wide and plus-size fit

Wide-fit boots are for riders who need more room through the calf without simply sizing up in the foot. A properly designed wide boot should keep the rest of the shape balanced.

The Broadland Plus-Size was designed with the larger leg in mind, while the Burnham Plus-Size combines a generous calf fit with a more competition-focused appearance.

What about slim fit?

The opposite problem is just as common. Riders with slender calves can find standard boots baggy through the ankle and leg. The Derby Slim-Fit is designed specifically for a closer fit through a slim leg and ankle.

Made to Measure

Made to Measure becomes especially useful when your measurements do not line up within a standard chart — for example, when the correct foot size comes with the wrong calf or height.

Tuffa offers bespoke versions of several styles, including Aylsham, Broadland, Derby, Showtime and Stockdale. Explore the Made to Measure process for measurement guidance and current options.

Which route should you choose?

  • Standard: your three key measurements line up comfortably with a stock size.
  • Wide/plus: you need more room through the calf while keeping the correct foot size.
  • Slim: you regularly find standard long boots too loose through the calf or ankle.
  • Made to Measure: standard proportions repeatedly miss your combination of foot, calf and height.
